TSI Survey Request

3/11/2014

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has conducted several workshops around the state to solicit feedback from interested parties about the new TSI rules and recommendations. Coordinating Board (CB) staff have made nine presentations regarding the new TSI recommendations and sought input both during the presentations and provided a website for further comment. The presentations changed somewhat over time as input was incorporated.

Apparently, informal feedback the CB has received indicates there is still some confusion out there regarding the new TSI rules. I would like your help in understanding the source of the confusion, if any, by answering the following questions. Your input would be most helpful in addressing the issues.

1.       For those of you who attended one, was the presentation clear? If not, what parts need clarification?

2.       What do you find to be the most confusing aspect of the proposed TSI rules and recommendations?

3.       Is there some particular aspect of the proposed rules and recommendations you would like clarification of?

4.       Other comments, questions, concerns.

Please send your comments to Rex Peebles - Assistant Commissioner, Workforce, Academic Affairs, and Research - Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, rex.peebles@thecb.state.tx.us.

Thanks,

Rex

GIPWE Update

1/17/2014

Dear TCCIA members,

The staff at THECB has been revising the GIPWE and have asked for our input. Attached are three documents: the draft GIPWE 2014, a document that compares that draft to the original GIPWE from 2010 and the GIPWE 2010 document. The second document is very long so I don't recommend printing it. We have been asked to review the draft GIPWE 2014 and send in our corrections or concerns as a group. I will take care of compiling all of your comments into one summary document.

Be aware that some sections of the document were moved to other chapters. So before you panic that something was completely deleted, please review the whole document to see whether it was simply moved.

Please send me your comments by 5:00 pm on Friday, February 14. You can post your comments here in this forum (which is my preferred method) or email them directly to me at carla.dando@lsco.edu

After THECB makes revisions based upon our recommendations, along with those from TACE and TACTE, the final draft of the document will be posted for the 30-day comment around March 14th.

Thank you for your help with this very important project.

Carla Dando

Digital Proctor Becomes a TCCIA 2012 Sponsor!

We are pleased to announce that Digital Proctor will be a silver level sponsor at our 2012 conference.  Digital Proctor was initially founded to help combat cheating in online tests. Working with their academic partners, they developed three unique tools to help with: a) verifying student identity in online or hybrid courses b) rooting out cases of blatant collusion, and c) addressing a new, pervasive form of plagiarism they call 'Plagiarism 2.0'.  Digital Proctor's uses a unique, data rich platform allows for other applications as well, such as helping institutions detect nefarious financial aid fraud schemes. Their latest pet project is using their data set to help improve student retention rates via an early intervention system designed for students whom are falling behind.

Thanks for being a sponsor of this year's conference!

Meningitis Exemption Process Just Got Easier!

4/26/2012

Getting a Bacterial Meningitis exemption just got easier.

From the TACRAO Listserv:
In case you weren’t aware, yesterday THECB approved the amendment to delete the requirement that a student seeking an exception from an initial MCV4 vaccination or booster dose for reasons of conscience, including a religious belief, be required to use a conscientious objection form obtained from the Department of State Health Services (DSHS).  The amended rules allow a student to use a form developed by THECB, which can be downloaded from the agency website, notarized, and filed with the student’s institution.   (THECB website confirming: http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/index.cfm?objectid=A641CD0D-E56A-A36A-1BCB39FF80781178)
